SAN MARCOS, Calif. - For the third consecutive round, the 2008 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship has a different leader. After Cal State San Marcos took the lead out of the gate with an opening-round 311, British Columbia roared to a 312 to assume a three-stroke second-round lead. Thursday, it was Embry-Riddle (Fla.), which fired a tournament-best 308 to open a narrow one-stroke lead with a 941 heading into Friday's final round.
The top four teams are separated by just 11 strokes.
Oklahoma City shot a 309 to move into second place with a 942. Cal State San Marcos shot a 314 to move into third place with 951, while British Columbia is fourth with a 952 after shooting a 322 today.
All four of Embry-Riddle's players shot under 80. Jocelyn Dunn, who shot an 83 and 81 in the first two rounds, came through with a 74 today. Overall leader Tara Allen shot a 77. Autumn Gee finished with a 78, and Albane Flamant chipped in with a 79.
Allen's 77 today is her highest score so far. Her 227 gives her a four-stroke lead heading into tomorrow's round. Bethel's Shanna Page shot her second straight 78 and is in second with a 231. Oklahoma City's Ashley Sholer shot a 77 today and is third with a 232. California Baptist's Malin Thorberg, who opened the tournament with an 80, has rebounded with a 76 and a 77 to move into fourth place with a 233.
The 72-hole tournament comes to its conclusion Friday, May 23.
