SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Senior Cara Painter's double-double led the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) to victory over Webber International University (Fla.), 75-50, Thursday in the first round of the 15th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The 2006 event is being held at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.
Painter dominated the paint, converting on 8 of 14 attempts from the field, 2 of 6 from beyond the arc and was perfect 11 of 11 at the free-throw line for at total 29 points. She also pulled down 15 rebounds en route to her nation leading 22nd double-double of the year. The only other Lady Bobcat to reach double figures was Janessa DeMuth with 10.
The Lady Bobcats improved their record to an impressive 30-1 and extended their current winning streak to 21 games.
Webber, in their first tournament appearance, was led in scoring by Shalunda Coleman. Coleman netted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jennie Persson chipped in with 11 for the Lady Warriors.
College of the Ozarks advances to the second round on Friday to face Aquinas College (Mich.) at 4:00 p.m.
