MOBILE, Ala. - The first round of the 2006 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship saw two ranked teams fall at the hands of upsets. With the top-seeded teams receiving a bye the first round, remaining teams battled for the right to advance to the second round. For the third consecutive year, all matches are being played at the Mobile Tennis Center.
No. 15-ranked Lee University (Tenn.) lost to #18 Flagler College (Fla.), 5-4, in one of the closest matches of the day. No. 20 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) upset # 13 Webber International University (Fla.) 6-3 to advance to the second round. Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) will start the defense if its national title at 1 p.m. (Central) on Tuesday against Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.).
Berry College (Ga.) men's tennis team was awarded the Buffalo Funds Five Star Award for their dedication and implementation of the five core character values on and off the court. The Vikings are committed to playing fairly and winning with character.
