ST. PETERS, Mo. - California Baptist University wasted little time in asserting themselves on day two of the 2006 NAIA Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving National Championships held at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.

California Baptist placed first in eight of the ten events held on day two of the championships. On the men's side California Baptist University took home the 200-yard medley relay title with a time of 1:32.53. Jan Tichy, Kevin Callister, Aaron Abellano and Russell Thompson swam the finals relay for the Lancers.

California Baptist also had the top three swimmers in both the 500-yard freestyle, and 50-yard freestyle as well as the top two in the 200-yard individual medley. Brad Terwiliger took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:36.10 while Thompson finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.65. Lancer Kent Klawer finished first in the 200-yard individual medley and teammate Benjamin Wahlman placed first in the Men 1 meter diving with a score of 293.85.

On the women's side, California Baptist did not let up taking home the 200-yard medley relay, 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Lancers Kimie Cook placed first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.18 and Krista Chacon finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.38. The Lancer women's team of Nicole Shipman, Kellie West, Rachel Macneill and Katelyn Butler won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.07.


 

 

Savannah College of Arts & Design (Ga.) also took home two first-place finishes. Abigail Doxsey won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.03 while Elizabeth Harr, Rachel Fritts, Laine Benthall and Doxsey won the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:43.58.

California Baptist is currently in first-place on both the men's and women's team rankings after day two. The men's team currently has 208 total points with Illinois Tech in second place with 64 points and Lindenwood University in third place with 60 points. On the women's side the California Baptist team has 158 points, while Savannah College of Arts & Design is currently second with 143 points and Illinois Tech is in third-place with 80 points.

Day 3 of the 2006 NAIA Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving National Championships will resume tomorrow, March 3 at 10 a.m. at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.
