Ian Leibbrandt of Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) and Kristy Brandolini of Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) were named the NAIA Men's and Women's Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending September 4, 2005.
Senior forward Leibbrandt from Winter Springs, Fla., recorded 15 points (6 goals, 3 assists) while leading then-#8 Azusa Pacific to a 3-0 mark last week. His pair of goals in the season opener led the Cougars past then-#14 Bethel (Ind.) 4-1. Leibbrandt scored four goals and added three assists in wins against the University of Illinois-Springfield and then-# 7 Judson College (Ill.). He scored twice in the second half of the Judson game to seal the win and is now sixth on the Cougars all-time scoring list with 95 career points. APU's season record stands at 3-0.
Brandonlini, a sophomore from Twinsburg, Ohio, scored four goals in a 5-0 victory against then-#16 Spring Arbor University (Mich.). After missing the team's first two matches of the season, the forward returned to the lineup to score the four goals off the bench to tie a school record for goals in a match. Mount Vernon is 1-2-0 on the year.

Janelle Marinos of Embry-Riddle University (Fla.), Sheila Mercado of William Penn University (Iowa), and Amy Eckenfels of Campbellsville University (Ky.) were named the NAIA Volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the Week, respectively for the week ending September 4, 2005
Marinos, a native of Three Rivers, Calif., had one of the strongest weeks of any Eagle player in the history of the program, averaging 5.26 kills per game with a total of 142 in 27 games played to help ERAU to a 6-2 record. The junior outsider hitter posted three 20-plus kill matches and finished with a .301 hitting percentage. Marinos also recorded 95 digs (3.52 per game) along with nine total blocks (1 BS, 8 BA).
Mercado, from San Sebastian, Puerto Rico averaged 15.5 assists per game as William Penn went 4-0 during the week. The Lady Statesmen posted victories against the University of St. Mary (Kan.), Campbellsville University (Ky.), Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) and Spring Arbor University (Mich.), dropping only one game in the four matches. The freshman setter also recorded 44 digs and six aces.
Eckenfels, a junior from Louisville, Ky., helped Campbellsville post a 4-1 record on the week. In 18 games, she averaged 10.8 digs and had four aces. Campbellsville recorded wins against Kentucky Wesleyan College (3-0), University of St. Mary (Kan.) (3-0), St. Ambrose University (Iowa) (3-0) and Spring Arbor University (Mich.) (3-2). The teams' only defeat came at the hands of William Penn University (Iowa) (1-3). For her play, Eckenfels was selected to the All-Tournament Team of the St. Ambrose Invitational.
