NAIA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

February 22, 2006

 

Scott Cook of Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) as been named the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Jaci Heny of Montana State University-Northern has been named the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 19, 2006.

 

Cook, a 6-foot senior guard from Brisbane, Australia, averaged more than 26 points as the Blue Raiders went 2-0 last week.  He scored a career high 31 points and had five rebounds in an 82-53 victory against then-#10 Campbellsville University (Ky.).  Cook then scored 22 points and had six assists in a 77-56 road victory against Pikeville College (Ky.).  For the week, Cook shot 64% from the field (16-for-25) and 93% from the free throw line (13-for-14).  Lindsey Wilson is 21-7 overall.

 

Heny, a 5-foot-6 inch senior guard from Wasco, Wyo., averaged 30 points as the Skylights went 2-0 on the week.  She scored 40 points in the 95-81 home win against Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho.).  Heny set an all-time MSU-Northern single game record with her 40 points, breaking the previous record of 38 points.  She then scored 21 points and had three rebounds in a 74-54 win against Westminster College (Utah).  Heny shot 68% from the field (17-for-25) and 83% from the free throw line (20-for-24).  Montana State-Northern is 17-8 overall.

NAIA Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week

February 22, 2006

 

Josh Lavere of Sterling College (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Ashley Davis of the Oklahoma Wesleyan University has been named the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 19, 2006.

 

Lavere, a 6-foot-1-inch junior guard from Lancaster, Ohio, averaged 28 points during the Warriors' 2-0 week.  He scored 39 points, a career high, and had four rebounds in a 78-65 road win against Ottawa University (Kan.).  Lavere then scored 17 points and three rebounds in an 86-75 road victory against then-#5 Southwestern College (Kan.).  Lavere has averaged 25.2 points in Sterling's last five games.  In the two games, Lavere shot 65% from the field (20-for-31) and 65% from the free-throw line (13-for-20).  Sterling is 15-13 overall on the season.

 

Davis, a 5-foot-6-inch senior guard/forward from Fort Worth, Texas, averaged 28.5 points as the Eagles' went 2-0 for the week.  She scored 31 points in a 78-77 win against Peru State College (Neb.).  Davis then scored 26 points and had three rebounds in a 74-73 win against Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.).  Davis averaged 85% from the free-throw line (22-for-26) and shot 45% from the field (15-for-33).  Oklahoma Wesleyan is 14-14 overall this season.
